Pakistani, Indian schools finalise project for peace

LAHORE: The delegation of students and teachers from India spent a busy day in the provincial metropolis on Monday while a joint project was also finalised between Pakistani and Indian schools to promote peace and harmony between both the countries.
The project has four different components and has been named as "Charpie Project." The first part of the project is related to the exchange of a story from Class-7 English books of both the countries while the second one is related to waste management and recycling by the students.
The third one is related to science subject under which teachers on both sides of the border will share their teaching methodology and experiences while the last one "If I would be a Pakistani" or "If I would be an Indian" will involve students from India and Pakistan respectively to understand each other.
The project is the result of an important session held between the Indian and Pakistani teachers at the Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust Higher Secondary School. It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian delegation had arrived in the country under the Indo-Pak Peace Project for Education between Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust, Pakistan, and The Millennium School, Amritsar, India.
It comprised the Millennium Education for Sustainable Development Programme's Manager Shankar Musafir, a teacher, Seema Gupta, and three students, namely Samash, Gurupdesh Singh and Saru Kundra from The Millennium School, Amritsar.
Earlier in the morning, the Indian delegates participated in a game session. The students took part in games like Pitho Garam and tug-of-war. Seema Gupta sang a song while students Samash and Gurupdesh also performed on a song. Shankar entertained the audience with a dialogue from Indian film "Sholay." The visiting delegates were also presented gifts on the occasion.
Later, the delegation had an informative session with Dr Ismat Riaz and was briefed on the historical aspects of both India and Pakistan. She also shared her thoughts regarding India and Pakistan relations and talked about important issues of both the countries with the help of a projector.
The Indian students along with Pakistani students also visited the Iqbal Academy in the afternoon and were given a briefing by its director M Sohail Umer. They visited different sections of the academy, including library, gallery and the conference hall.
Talking to The News, the Indian students said they enjoyed a lot during their stay in Pakistan and were really impressed by hospitality of their hosts and friends. Samash and Gurupdesh Singh were of the view that they were so happy that they did not want to go back, adding that they would be missing their Pakistani friends. They also said that they were sad as they were departing after a very brief visit.
Saru Kundra also had similar feelings and she said that she enjoyed her stay and it was an interesting experience. The students also expressed hope to visit the country again. Later in the evening, the delegates went to different markets of the provincial metropolis for shopping. The delegation will leave for India on Tuesday (today).
