PERTH: Speakers lauded the media-led joint peace initiative launched by Pakistan's Jang Group and The Times of India at a special session of Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) here on Thursday for its efforts to ease tensions and end conflict between the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours.
Aman ki Asha, or the desire of peace, was specially mentioned by key speakers at an official session on Pakistan's business and investment potential at the CBF.
Tariq Puri, Chairman Trade & Development Authority of Pakistan, while answering a question by an Indian participant said that it was a wrong impression that the media always played a negative role when it comes to relations between Pakistan and India. The Jang Group, Pakistan's biggest media house, and The Times of India jointly launched the peace initiative 'Aman Ki Asha', which played a positive role in improving ties between the two countries, he said.
Abdul Razzak Dawood, a former federal minister and chairman of DESCON Engineering, said that the Jang Group and The Times of India have been allocating their own time and resources to build bridges of peace and trying to remove misunderstandings between the neighbours.
The business community, especially the Pakistan Business Council, representing 60 percent of the market capitalisation at the KSE, fully supports better ties between Pakistan and India. And in this, the Jang Group and The Times of India are playing a crucial role which will go a long way in peace and prosperity in the region, he added.
